Communication Issues
Sometimes I feel we don't get as much explanation as needed in class than we actually do. For example, when making this book it wasn't until I finished building my book that I saw, at the bottom of the document made by Tom for everybody, that he wrote that we shouldn't cut on the bleed lines because it would cut off parts of the pages we didn't want cut. Since this wasn't really ever mentioned in class, my book now has some craft issues which will overall deduct from my grade.

Dyson Inventions
Dyson is mainly known for his vacuum cleaner design, but thats not the only thing that he invented. Here is a link to the top 10 designs by Dyson.
The Final Two Page Layouts
After making many layouts, it has come down to these two layouts. I think that the gray layout stands out more and is more of a Dyson style layout. All of the colors are more cohesive in the gray layout and use the colors that Dyson uses.

Dyson Paper
James Dyson
is a well known British Industrial Designer, entrepreneur, and engineer. Dyson
was born on May 2, 1947. He grew up in a town called Cromer, England. Nine
years after Dyson’s birth, his father passed away. In an interview about
Dyson’s early loss he said, “I can’t quite explain it, but I think
subconsciously I felt I needed to prove myself” (Life’s Work). This need to
prove himself ultimately led him to be the designer that he is today. Dyson
attended the Royal Collage of Art where he studied interior and furniture
design and later went on to study engineering (. At school Dyson met engineer
Jeremy Fry who also started his own business. It wasn’t until after working
with Fry did Dyson begin to design on his own, and this is where he began to
make his name.
Dyson’s
success came after one day getting frustrated with his vacuum because it kept
loosing its suction the more he vacuumed. After tearing the vacuum apart he
discovered that the problem was dust getting stuck in the bag holes. He set off
the change the vacuuming industry and 5,127 prototypes later (Life’s Work), he
did. Dyson’s newly designed vacuum was something the market had not seen yet.
His design flaunted the engineering and the mechanisms of how the vacuum worked
unlike the other competitors vacuums on the market. The colors that he used
weren’t the typical in house appliance colors that most vacuums on the market
were using. He used colors used in power tools and that created a sleek and
serious look. The vacuum also offered something that no other vacuum offered;
you could see the dust being sucked up into the new chamber. Dyson believed
that designers should be the engineers and the engineers should be the designer
and when the two are separated designers start doing things for marketing
purposes rather than functional purposes (How to Make It). The big manufacturers declined Dyson’s
innovative design, but he pressed on and began his own manufacturing process.
His vacuum soon took over the market. His idea to keep design and function
together kept reviving in his work. Innovations he made in one product he would
try and find other ways he could use it. Dyson’s work is a perfect example of
how design should interact with how the product works and how it could be used
for other products.

Stress
Having everything break right before finals week has put even more stress on me than I needed. Both laser cutters are down meaning that I can not laser cut my book jacket as needed, this in turn creates and issue with rearranging my title page because it is suppose to match my book cover. So it therefore will not go as planned. Also the guillotine at Jayhawk Ink Broke, causing even more chaos. FedEx does guillotine, but it ended up costing significantly more. On top of that I part of a new management staff for the Roeland Park Aquatic Center. This meaning that I am now responsible for running a business on the weekends and making sure it runs properly. The month of May has been really hectic due to the amount of work my classes have given me and preparing the pool for summer. The stress has overwhelmed me at some points in the semester and I have had to choose between failing at different things. Unfortunately this class has got the short end of the stick most of the time due to its amount of work and already lower grade than my other classes.
This book has been a challenge for me. Working with Dyson's style doesn't give a pattern or really unique style. Dyson's style is more of a simpler minimalistic style. I tried to take inspiration from his website, but it seemed to be to dull and uninteresting. What I decided to do instead was look at the colors he used in is vacuums and other products to create a color scheme to go with. Since Dyson uses a dark grey and deep purple I decided that those colors would work best in my final layout. I repeated this color scheme throughout the rest of my spreads and book. Using purple as an ascent color, it really made parts of the book stand out.

Photography of Time and Space
For my project of time and space, I am focusing more on the time aspect. I am going to focus more on human portraits and genetics. My plan for this project is to take high quality portraits of my parents and my self and combine them to show the passing on of genetics over time. Another thought for my project is to take portrait pictures of a girl without make up and a girl with make up and stitch the photos together. These are my preliminary ideas and are still in the thought process. Below are images of celebrities that I morphed together in photoshop and somewhat represent what my project make look like.

Double Exposure Photography.
I think that double exposure photography is a good starting point for this second project of documenting time and space with photography. Double exposure photography is two images take at different times exposed toether to form one photo of them both. I think its a cool and good idea for a starting point of this project. Below is a link to some double exposure photographs.
