Color Police

This photo is a good example of focal point, contrasting values, and contrasting chroma. The image is a good representation of focal point because of the only color in the center of the image draws your eye towards it. It is a good example of contrasting values because of all the darks and lights across the image with high contrast in some points. Lastly the image is a good example of contrasting chroma because of the only color in the middle. The blue in the center of the image has high chroma whereas the rest of the image has low chroma due to its lack of color.

This image is a bad example of contrast and focal point. The photo is a bad example of contrast because it has very little high and low separation in values, most of the image is dark except for the upper third. Also the focal point of this image is very hard to find. Since all of the colors seem to blend together it is hard to tell what the focus of the image is.

Think and Make Reading One response

The Think and Make Reading One was very interesting. It got me thinking on what design actually is. The reading had some very good points and one of them was that design did not have very many boundaries. Design can be expressed in many different ways, such as the most thought of way, fashion, interior design, product design, etc. It can also be in what we think as the more industrial side, like the design of the pipe under the sink. Design has little agreement on what it actually is since it is such a universal term that no profession cohered to it. One way it was defined was by John Heskett and he said design was, "the human capacity to shape and make our environment in ways without precedent in nature, to serve our needs and give meaning to our lives." Design is a very interesting concept that can be used and taken in many ways. It helps shape our world to our needs.
